# Versions and restore

> Changes are saved, so you can go back to an earlier version of the app.

Changes to a project are recorded, so a bad afternoon is never fatal. Automo Build supports rollback to earlier states of your app.

## What a version is

A version is the state of the code after a change, whether it came from a chat message or a hand edit, with a short summary of what changed.

## Reading the history

The project history shows what changed and when. It is the quickest way to answer "when did that break?".

## Going back

You can restore an earlier version, or simply ask in the chat: "go back to how the booking page was before the redesign." Your live app is not affected until you publish again.

## Undo just the last thing

For small mistakes, say "undo that" in the chat.

## What versions do not cover

Versions are about code and structure. They do not roll back your **data**: records your users created, uploaded files, or emails already sent. If a change altered the database shape, restoring the code does not undo that.

> [!warning] Before a large change to live data, ask for a backup first. Then restoring code and data are two separate, safe decisions.

## Before a risky experiment

Before trying something big, note where you are, for example by asking the builder to remember the current state as your starting point, or by publishing a known-good version first.
